FOTOmentor Award 2012

Ralph Gibson will be the recipient of the prestigious FOTOmentor Award during FOTOfusion 2012.

RALPH GIBSON, for over 50 years, has consistently pursued and extended the definition of Black & White photography. His images are as much about photography itself as the subject in the picture. Working exclusively with the Leica 35mm camera throughout his career he has had more than 200 solo exhibitions and is considered one of the foremost Black & White photographers of his time.  His images often incorporate fragments with erotic and mysterious undertones, building narrative meaning through contextualization and surreal juxtaposition. He has maintained a lifelong fascination with books and book-making. Since the 1970 appearance of The Somnambulist, he has produced over 40 monographs and his images are included in more than 200 museum collections worldwide.  Ralph is the recipient of the FOTOfusion 2012 FOTOmentor award.
